Good afternoon,

We will require a permit for resurfacing a pool.  You would need to submit a survey of the property and clearly show the location of where the pool will be dewatered and that there will be a dewatering bag present. In addition, we will need to see that there will be protection for any stormwater intakes that are potentially affected.

A permit is required only to verify the child safety requirements are being met.  It's even more important for a commercial pool, and it requires fire review and inspection.

CS&P only requires permits when the pool resurfacing scope of work affects the pool structure, or involves any electrical / lighting or plumbing built into the pool or even ladder replacement involving pool bonding.    We would want to inspect those systems before they are covered up.       Projects that are solely limited to tile and resurfacing do NOT require a permit.    Every project and scope of work is different.

In May 2021, we entered into an agreement with Pinellas County for them to serve as our Building Official. As such, please contact them to determine if a permit is required for that type of specific work.  If they indicate yes, the permit would start with the City of Safety Harbor for Land Development/Fire Code review, then would be taken to Pinellas County for Florida Building Code review.     Thanks,

Resurfacing Permitting (Required)

Date: Tue, May 3, 2022 at 12:39 PM

Subject: Re: Question regarding public and private swimming pool resurfacing
A permit is required only to verify the child safety requirements are being met.  It's even more important for a commercial pool, and it requires fire review and inspection.

Respectfully, Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx, Building Official, Community Development

Resurfacing Permitting (NOT Required)

Sent: Tuesday, March 9, 2021 3:02 PM

Subject: RE: Public Swimming Pool Resurfacing Permit Question

CS&P only requires permits when the pool resurfacing scope of work affects the pool structure, or involves any electrical / lighting or plumbing built into the pool or even ladder replacement involving pool bonding.    We would want to inspect those systems before they are covered up.       Projects that are solely limited to tile and resurfacing do NOT require a permit.    Every project and scope of work is different.
