Waterline Tile

aka Wall Tile.  Waterline Tile is a band or bands of tile, with each band being typically 6-inches of height, that runs along the perimeter of a swimming pool and is located right beneath the coping ("Flat") or located curving over ("Bullnose") to meet the deck.  Waterline Tile helps to prevent the buildup of sunscreen, body oil, other contaminants and discoloration along the pool's edge. It helps to make the pool easier to clean and maintain and provides a clean, defined boundary for the pool.

Gutterline Tile

Depth Marker Tile

Depth Marker Tile

a.k.a. Gutter Lip Tile or Gutter Trim Tile

The gutter lip shall be tiled with a minimum of 2-inch tile on the pool wall, each a minimum size of 1 inch on all sides. All tile used on the flat, horizontal part, or the leading edge of an open-type gutter, must be slip resistant.

Depth Marker Tile

Depth markers shall indicate the actual pool depth, within 3", at normal operating water level measured 3' from pool wall.  At a minimum, markings shall be located on both sides of the pool at the shallow end, slope break, deep-end wall and deep point (if located more than 5' from the deep-end wall). The maximum perimeter distance between markings is 25'.

No Diving Tile

Areas of the pool that are not part of an approved diving bowl shall have dark contrasting tile, 4-inch-high “NO DIVING” markings installed along the perimeter of the pool on the top of the pool curb or deck within 2' of the pool water with a max perimeter distance of 25' between markings.  A 6"  tile with a 4" or larger red, international “NO DIVING” symbol may be substituted for the “NO DIVING” markings. “NO DIVING” markings are not required within the swimming pool.
